How adoption works

  1. Find your match. Browse the cats above and submit an application for the one who steals your heart.
  2. We review & reach out. Our team reviews your application and gets in touch to talk through the details.
  3. Meet & greet. Schedule a visit and spend real time with your potential new family member.
  4. Make it official. Decide together that it’s the right fit for everyone.
  5. Adoption day! Your cat goes home groomed and ready — with their medical records, some food, toys, and comfort items to ease the move.

Fostering saves two lives at once

The cat you take home heals in comfort — and the space you open lets us rescue the next one. We coordinate the vet care; you bring a safe room, the day-to-day, and lots of love.

Why foster with us?

  • ✓No experience needed. First-time fosters are welcome — we'll walk you through every step.
  • ✓We coordinate the medical care. We schedule your foster cat's vet treatment; you bring them to appointments and give any medication they need.
  • ✓You provide the day-to-day. We're a small, foster-based rescue, so we can't always supply food and litter — fosters usually provide their own, and we share what we have whenever we can.
  • ✓We handle adoptions. You foster until your cat finds a home (timing varies). And if you fall in love, ask about our Foster-to-Adopt program 😺

Everything you need to know about helping Kansas City's stray cats.

How do I foster a cat in Kansas City?

Fill out our foster application and our coordinator will review it and reach out to match you with a cat that fits your home and schedule. No experience needed; we'll walk you through every step.

Does fostering a cat cost anything?

Mostly it costs love and time. The rescue handles your foster cat's veterinary care — you bring them to scheduled vet visits and give any medication they need. We share food and supplies when we can, but can't always guarantee them, so some fosters help provide their own.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Purrfect Homes Animal Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 99-1189914), so your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

How are donations used?

Nearly every dollar goes to life-saving medical treatments, spay/neuter through our Trap-Neuter-Return program, food, and shelter — helping stray cats find forever homes.

What is Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)?

TNR is a humane approach to feral cat populations: cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their colony, which reduces the number of stray cats over time.

How do I surrender a cat or report a stray?

Use our intake form to tell us about the cat. Our team reviews every submission and responds with next steps as soon as we can. Owner surrenders are completed through our official ShelterLuv form.
